idc staff instructor

In your IDC Staff program, you’ll learn how to assist with instructor training during a PADI IDC. You’ll gain in-depth knowledge of the instructor development process, and will serve as a role model for up-and-coming OWSIs.

Average Day

Your IDC Staff program will run during one of our scheduled IDCs, which last for 10 days. Each day is a combination of classroom sessions, pool sessions, and open water sessions. For instance, you might spend the morning at the world-famous Blue Heron Bridge assisting with Open Water presentations, and the afternoon in our air-conditioned classroom reviewing prescriptive teaching. Our average day is from 8am to 6pm with a break for lunch.

What will you Learn?

Your IDC Staff Training will improve your teaching abilities so that you effectively staff IDCs. The course will include independent study and classroom sessions to strengthen your knowledge of standards and dive theory. You’ll also bring your dive skills up to demonstration quality during in-water sessions.

SKILLS and knowledge assessment

When you begin your IDC Staff program, our Course Director will conduct a pre-assessment of your skills and knowledge. This will include your presentation techniques, dive skills and knowledge of dive theory.

Classroom Sessions and IDC Assistance

After your pre-assessment, you’ll attend classroom sessions and in-water sessions to develop your skills. These will include:

  • Instructor development standards, procedures and curriculum
  • How to organize and conduct the PADI Assistant Instructor course
  • The psychology of evaluation and counseling
  • Evaluating knowledge development, confined water and open water teaching presentations

You’ll spend most of your time as an active assistant during the IDC itself. Moreover, you’ll be able to practice presenting many curriculum components as you help instructor trainees through their development course.
